About This Kaupapa

Join us at Whare Hau Tutū for the first of two Oranga Taiao – Tūāpapa wānanga with Para Kore.

Day One introduces the foundations of everyday materials and the systems that shape what we use, waste, reuse, recycle and return to the whenua.

We’ll explore Ngā Rawa Māori o te Ao Tūroa | Natural Resources, looking at how many everyday items come from natural resources connected to Rangi and Papa. This includes simple kōrero around renewable and non-renewable resources, and a hands-on natural resource game to help bring the learning to life.

We’ll also look at Te Pūnaha Whakapeto Hautaonga | The System of Stuff, unpacking how the linear system of taking, making, using and throwing away impacts our Atua Māori. This session will explore why reduce and reuse sit at the heart of better waste practices, why recycling alone is not the answer, and what alternatives exist to single-use…
