About This Kaupapa

It’s been sitting in the kete for a while, and now it’s time to get it out, have a play and share it around.

This is a chance to spend some time getting to know the basics of tāniko, how the pattern builds, how the weaving works and how those little crosses, lines and shapes start to become something pretty bloody clever - tupuna clever!

We keep it small, relaxed and hands-on.

You’ll learn the technique, have a play with colour and pattern, and start making your own tāniko tāhei toi.

There will be kōrero, there will be making, there will probably be a bit of 'reverse weaving' 😂, because that’s just part of the mahi.

No need to arrive already knowing how to tāniko.
