The Art of Tāniko + Tāhei Toi with Julz

Over five Tuesday evenings, you'll learn tāniko and whatu with Julz from tiAki raranga, starting with the basics of how the pattern builds, how the weaving works, and how those little crosses, lines and shapes start to become something pretty bloody clever...tupuna clever.

As the weeks go on, you'll put that technique into practice making your own tāhei toi and taniko using contemporary resources.

We keep it small, relaxed and hands-on. There will be kōrero, there will be making, there will probably be a bit of "reverse weaving" 😂, because that's just part of the mahi.

No need to arrive already knowing how to tāniko or whatu. No fancy equipment. No pressure to be perfect. And if you've had a go before but it still feels like one of those things your brain almost understands, bring yourself along, we'll have another crack at it together.
