About This Kaupapa
Nau mai, haere mai! Whether you're a seasoned maker and writer or you've never folded a zine in your life, this one's for you. Facilitated by experienced and renowned writers Dr Marama Salsano and Hāwea Apiata, this workshop supports participants to shape words, images, memory, and reflection into a handmade zine.
Zines are small, powerful, self-published works that can hold story, protest, whakapapa, humour, poetry, art, and personal truth. In this session, participants may be guided through creative prompts and hands-on making to create a zine grounded in personal reflection and Te Ao Māori expression.
This wānanga is for adults of all creative confidence levels. You do not need to identify as a writer or artist to attend.
For first-timers, we'll walk you through different types and styles of zines, then guide you through some creative exercises to help you make at least one handmade zine, full of your own original…
